The
Arsenal and Liverpool game today was an exciting one to say the least, all the
way up to the final whistle. With a poor Arsenal side looking to go one down at
the end of the first half, a late goal by Debuchy put the teams level going
into the break. Then, Olivier Giroud gave Arsenal the lead coming out of
halftime, which lasted all the way into extra time. Partly due to a head injury
to Martin Skrtel, a large amount of stoppage time was added, and Arsenal needed
to hold the lead. In the ninth minute, however, Arsenal let up a corner kick,
which was driven into the goal by Skrtel to equalize the final score. While
Arsenal had some low points in the game, Arsene Wenger was still upset by the
loss, and felt that the team should have done better to hold on to the lead. No
doubt Liverpool feels that they at the very least deserved the tie, but they
really could have had the win against this lacking Arsenal team. Like most of
the other games or happenings at Arsenal, the draw raises question to Wenger’s
tactics with the team. Pulling out Giroud, a strong aerial player, proved to be
a poor decision, and decisions need to be stepped up in order for Arsenal to have
any chance to do well this season.
